Since our last newsletter we have issued a few updates and the current release is now v2021.4. This update adds a new notification template token for including event monitor notes and fixes a few reported issues.
One of the fixes addresses an issue with showing devices on network diagram dashboard panels. If you had paused a device for a specified period of time, it would appear in a success state on the dashboard. The same was true for devices that were in a maintenance window. Now the device will appear paused in both of these conditions.
This release also includes updates to the style and content of multi-site notifications. Previously, if your multi-site installation lost contact with one of its remote nodes, we would send a notification but it didn't really include all of the details that people would like to see. The new notifications include complete details about the site and the time it was last heard from.
The same notification text is also recorded in the Administration History, giving you a historical record of the times when there may have been connectivity issues.
One of FrameFlow's strengths is its extensibility, especially in how it lets you integrate PowerShell scripts into our monitoring and alerting engine.
Our new tutorial shows you, step-by-step, how to develop your own script and explains the type of output that FrameFlow expects from your script so that it can generate alerts and graph data points.
Your scripts can perform pretty much any task that you choose. As a result, our PowerShell event monitor offers a great way to help you monitor those few important things that are highly-specific to your environment.
Writing your own scripts is quite easy, especially since you can find a lot of content and sample code on the web. FrameFlow includes a set of example PowerShell Event Monitors for different monitoring tasks. You can use them as is or as the basis for your own custom PowerShell event monitor. You can find these in the PowerShell library, accessible by opening the "Add Event Monitor" menu and choosing the PowerShell tab.
For complete details, as well as tips and techniques, see our new tutorial.
Version 2021.4 is the current release and is recommended for all FrameFlow users. See our change log for complete details about what's new and improved.
That's all for this newsletter. As always, if you have questions or feedback that you would like to share, get in touch because we're always eager to hear your suggestions.
Sincerely,
The FrameFlow Team
