New Tutorial: CPU Usage Event Monitor
Our CPU Usage event monitor has a lot of great functionality that isn't immediately obvious. As its name implies, it can monitor current CPU usage and alert if it exceeds a threshold that you specify.
But more than just that, it can look at individual cores on multicore systems or multi-vCPU virtual machines. It can also give you a list of the top 10 CPU hogs in each and every notification, helping you to identify which processes are dragging down system performance.
Our new tutorial shows you how to set up these kinds of monitoring and more.
CPU Usage Monitor TutorialPlanned December Release
We're planning a maintenance release for mid-December. It will include fixes for a few issues affecting v2020.11 and some earlier releases.
In particular we are investigating:
- an issue that affects PDF report generation
- an issue with network diagram lines on multi-site dashboards
- a problem with batch suppressing alerts for some event monitors

Looking Forward to 2021
The next major FrameFlow update is scheduled for the third week of January. The rest of this month's newsletter is dedicated to telling you a bit about some of the great new features we are working on.
Ticketing and Alert Assignment
Our mission is to provide a single-pane-of-glass view for all IT operations. As a result, at many customer sites, there are multiple FrameFlow admins each responsible for different systems and procedures.
When alerts are triggered, it's important for the team to know that someone has taken responsibility for finding and fixing the cause of the alert. In pre-pandemic days, turning around and saying "You got it, bro?" probably would have got the job done. But with remote work looking like it will be a reality for sometime to come, team coordination is more important than ever.
In the image above, I'm logged in as Spock. I noticed an alert about Amazon DynamoDB read capacity units and that's my area of responsibility, so I decide to use the new ticket icon to quickly assign that alert to me. Now the rest of the USS Enterprise crew knows that I'm on it.
The Headquarters section also gets a new assignments section so we can see who is working on what.
Some of those servers are running low on disk space. Kirk will take care of them, right?
Under the hood as you assign alerts to team members, tickets are automatically generated and updated. Tickets have a status timeline that records all changes in state and assignment. Team members can also add custom status entries to a timeline to record the actions taken while troubleshooting a condition.
Mobile App Updated
The next release is also going to come with significant updates to our mobile apps. A new dashboard section will quickly give you a high-level view of monitoring status. Also, push notifications will include more details about the alerts that triggered them.
Our mobile apps are also receiving all of the great ticketing and alert assignment features that we told you about above. Managing alerts and coordinating with other team members will be easier than ever.
