Our latest major release is now FrameFlow v2024.6, an update that contains tons of new additions to our software. Here, we'll discuss this update's most prominent changes and improvements. For a total list of all changes in this update and previous ones, refer to our change log.
Throughout our interface, we've implemented new icons to add context to our right-click actions menu. Because our right-click menus can be long depending on what section of the interface you're in, the new icons let you choose actions more quickly and intuitively.
We've created a new event monitor to add to our Linux monitoring roster: the Linux/SSH DNF Update Event Monitor. This monitor checks your systems for pending DNF updates and sends alerts if it detects an update that needs to be applied. This event monitor can even automate the updating process for all connected network devices.
Read more about this event monitor on its Features page.
Also in this update, we removed Active Directory user groups. Previously, any member of the Active Directory group you specified in the login and security settings could use those credentials to also log into your FrameFlow configuration. This wasn't ideal, because it meant that the system treated every domain admin as the same user. That means, for example, that Telemetry notifications from our mobile app would be sent to every user on the list with no flexibility or room for customization. Two-factor authentication was also shared.
In v2024.6, we remedied this. Now, the Active Directory User Group option has been replaced with an extra filtering option called "Type". To get the same AD group configuration as before, choose Active Directory as the group type. Below that, you enter the name of the AD group you want to give FrameFlow permissions. Under that, there's a role chooser where you can specify the permissions that will apply to the entire group. These settings will apply to everyone in the AD group.
When a user who is a part of the AD group you specified logs in, FrameFlow automatically creates a profile for the user complete with their information from AD. Unlike before, this user now has unique two-factor auth, Telemetry access, and more. These settings were previously shared.
Moving forward, all users of Telemetry will be required to use two-factor authentication. For now, we're retaining the option to use Telemetry without 2FA, but we recommend you begin using two-factor authentication whenever using/enabling Telemetry from now on. We'll soon remove the option to use Telemetry without 2FA entirely, most likely in our next update.
Another new addition to FrameFlow in v2024.6 improves the Active Directory Discovery Event Monitor. Now, when a device that was found in AD previously is no longer detected by FrameFlow, you can choose to automatically pause, move, or remove it from monitoring entirely.
Previously, devices like these would stay in your monitoring configuration and potentially introduce confusion and clutter. Now, you'll be able to identify and deal with these devices in a quick and customized way.
Spreadsheet views help you view all your devices or monitors and perform bulk actions on them. In this update, we've improved these views to have more flexibility. Now you can right-click on a column header to sort by that column. Right-click again on the same column to reverse the sorting order.
The VMware Snapshots Event Monitor also received an update in FrameFlow v2024.6. For a while, this monitor has had the option to record the number of snapshots and output that information as a data point, but until now, you couldn't choose to receive alerts about this number. That's changed in this update. Now, you can receive alerts about the number of snapshots FrameFlow detects, adding custom thresholds for each alert level.
One of our dashboard panels, the System Health panel, can now display system health information from your multi-site configuration. Previously, in the settings for this dashboard panel, you needed to select a site to collect system health information from. You would have had to create multiple system health panels to display system health for all of your sites. Now, the panel can display health info across all sites on a single dashboard panel.
We have updated our Telemetry applications with new notification capabilities in the FrameFlow Headquarters section for lost contact. Now, you'll be alerted through Telemetry push notifications if FrameFlow loses contact with one of your remote nodes. If the server is down, connection to the internet is severed, or any other lost contact event occurs, you'll be able to recover operations much more quickly.
As you can see, there are plenty of new features to access by logging in and upgrading your instance. Make sure you update ASAP to get these important ease-of-use and security changes to keep running the best and latest version of FrameFlow. As always, you can take a look at our change log to view a complete list of changes.
