Telnet Event Monitor

Ensures that Telnet servers are running.

Overview

Use this event monitor to make sure your Telnet servers are up and accepting incoming requests.

Use Cases

  • Monitoring the Telnet server's response for a specific text string
  • Ensuring that Telnet servers are responding to incoming requests

Monitoring Options

This event monitor provides the following options:

Alert with [Info/Warning/Error/Critical] if the Telnet server is unreachable

Use this option to get alerts if the event monitor is unable to contact the Telnet server.

Alert with [Info/Warning/Error/Critical] if the server response includes the text [text string]

This option lets you specify text to search for in the Telnet response and will alert you if it is found.

Alert with [Info/Warning/Error/Critical] if the server response does not include the text [text string]

This option is the reverse of the previous one and will alert you if the specified text is not found.

Include the response text in all notifications

With this option enabled all alerts and notifications will include the Telnet server's response text.

Connect on port number [#]

The default port number for Telnet is 23 but you can specify a different port using this option.

Wait for a response for [#] seconds

Specify the maximum time the event monitor will wait for responses from the Telnet server. If you are getting timeouts, try increasing this value.

Authentication and Security

This event monitor does not require authentication.
